Peri-implantitis: Unchained & Demystified

Although a high predictability and long-term success rate of dental implants is well documented in the literature, peri-implant disease affecting osseointegrated implants is a topic of major interest in contemporary dentistry. As more and more people today are choosing dental implants a corresponding rise in the number of individuals with this post-implant complications can be observed.

Therefore, successful diagnosis and management of peri-implantitis requires a thorough understanding of the underlying medical and dental factors involved in the overall complexity of this disease. This presentation aims to explore the recent literature for effictive diagnostic optionss, differnential diagnosis, non-surgical and surgical treatment options of peri-implantitis and evaluate their effectiveness and limitations.

Content of the lecture:

  • Etiology, risk factors, prevalence, classification of peri-implant bone defects
  • Clinical manifestations, examinations and radiologic diagnostics of ailing and failing implants, the role of Vitamin D in early implant failure
  • Differential diagnosis of peri – implantitis, Titanium intolerance
  • Decision making process: When to save or to remove an implant
  • Broad based and scientific literature supported overview of non-surgical treatment options and surgical therapy approaches (resective and regenerative) used in modern peri-implantitis management and treatment
  • Optional amendment: Modern techniques of implant removal (explanation)
